Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • experience in retail or customer service preferred
  • availability to work weekends, afternoons, and evenings
  • ability to stand for extended periods
  • ability to lift up to 40 lbs
  • effective communication skills in English
  • basic math skills
  • ability to operate cash register and related equipment
  • ability to maintain a positive, respectful attitude
  • willingness to learn co-op policies and procedures
  • ability to follow security and safety protocols

Job Duties

  • treat people fairly, consistently, and with respect
  • ensure efficient, informative, and friendly service according to established customer service vision and standards
  • check out customer purchases quickly and accurately using correct prices, codes, and departments
  • ensure 100 percent cash register accuracy and complete all payment transactions efficiently and precisely
  • bag groceries and assist customers with further needs
  • end customer transactions with a pleasant farewell
  • call for back up on registers when needed
  • become familiar with co-op policies and products to answer customer questions
  • refer unresolved questions to front end manager or supervisory staff
  • follow proper procedures in balancing cash drawer at end of shift
  • follow security procedures in handling drawers, pick-ups, potential shoplifters, and quick change artists
  • maintain front end area in a clean, organized, and orderly condition
  • clean register and put shop backs away at end of shift
  • advise front end manager of equipment or replacement needs
  • during slow times, take initiative to stock items or ask for assignments
  • attend department meetings as scheduled
  • abide by all Co-op policies and procedures
  • keep store and office orderly and clean
  • maintain a positive attitude
  • perform all other duties as assigned by department manager or supervisory staff
