Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s degree or associate degree in engineering, naval architecture, or related technical discipline preferred
  • PMP certification preferred
  • Five years’ project management experience in ship maintenance, modernization, construction, or repair
  • Five to ten years’ managerial or supervisory experience in engineering projects involving naval ship HM&E or electronic systems
  • Current security clearance (SECRET) or ability to obtain one
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Ability to maintain security clearance at active facilities
  • Structural background preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Project, Access, Publisher)
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, and travel extensively
  • Ability to manage large teams of up to 50 employees
  • Ability to work in physically demanding and hazardous environments

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s degree or associate degree in engineering, naval architecture, or similar discipline preferred
  • PMP certification preferred
  • At least five years of project management experience in naval ship repair or maintenance
  • Proven managerial or supervisory experience overseeing engineering projects
  • Experience with NAVSEA Standard Items and shipyard operations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and proprietary software
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Ability to maintain or obtain security clearance
  • Knowledge of Navy organizations and ship systems
  • Experience working with unionized labor and subcontractors
  • Ability to create and manage project budgets and schedules
  • Skilled in risk assessment and mitigation
  • Experience in heavy labor management
  • Ability to lead post-project evaluations
  • Capability to mentor and develop staff

Job Duties

  • Plans, estimates, negotiates, staffs, manages work execution, and reconciles final billings on assigned projects
  • Resolves internal project issues related to productivity and safety
  • Leads post-project reviews to capture lessons learned
  • Meets or exceeds customer expectations for quality, productivity, and safety
  • Works with customers to manage project scope and cost changes
  • Represents the company in dealings with customers fairly and consistently
  • Collaborates with Estimating Department to develop project estimates
  • Interprets specifications, plans project sequencing, coordinates project phases
  • Writes documentation and resolves problems to improve company processes
  • Plans, coordinates, and directs production activities
  • Ensures appropriate daily project staffing
  • Monitors job progress and manpower utilization
  • Manages subcontracts for support work
  • Oversees operations of assigned worksite
  • Maintains relationships with vendors, customers, and labor unions
  • Coordinates purchasing, shipping, and receiving for project supplies
  • Assesses and manages project risks
  • Works flexible hours including nights and weekends
  • Willing to travel and manage projects in remote locations
  • Identifies and manages changes in project scope, schedule, and budget
  • Solely responsible for project health, may manage multiple projects
  • Ensures safety, quality, scheduling, and budgeting of projects
  • Implements Plan of Action and Milestones per NAVSEA standards
  • Participates in Shipcheck opportunities
  • Uses proprietary software suites
