Job Description

The City of Athens-Clarke County, Georgia, is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to join its Leisure Services Department as a Program Manager based at the Heard Park Community Center. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field with one year of related experience or equivalent combination of education training and experience
  • valid driver's license
  • certification in First Aid CPR required or ability to attain within six months
  • one year of supervisory experience preferred
  • flexible work schedule including some weekends
  • regular and predictable attendance
  • ability to cooperate with others
  • must adhere to safe driving policies when operating vehicles
  • physical ability to perform medium work involving walking standing bending stooping pushing pulling lifting fingering grasping feeling seeing talking hearing and repetitive motions
  • ability to use computers and software related to the position
  • ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally
  • ability to handle mathematical calculations required

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in recreation management or related field
  • one year of related experience preferably with supervisory duties
  • certification in First Aid and CPR
  • valid driver's license
  • experience with program planning and development
  • strong organizational and leadership skills
  • proficiency with computer software for scheduling and reporting
  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • ability to manage budgets and coordinate volunteers
  • knowledge of safety practices and emergency procedures

Job Duties

  • Plan develop conduct and evaluate programs events activities camps and tournaments
  • supervise train make hiring recommendations and evaluate assigned employees volunteers and interns
  • handle all related concerns direct work assignments discipline and counsel workers when necessary
  • oversee program instructors and manage contract agreements with contract labor
  • prepare specific objectives for programs and special events develop written plans of action evaluate and adjust programs maintain records for reporting and assessment
  • address needs of program participants with disabilities seek higher-level assistance as needed
  • prepare annual budget proposals assist with budget development
  • coordinate volunteer needs assist with recruitment and training for programs and special events
  • create and coordinate publicity and promotional materials including website maintenance
  • prepare coordinate and schedule appropriate facilities for programs special events coordinate maintenance safety inspections and security needs
  • design construct maintain and collect materials for programs displays and exhibits
  • assist with management of daily facility operations perform duties of facility supervisor when needed
  • schedule reserve and input data for programs events activities camps and tournaments into scheduling software
  • serve as department liaison to community groups and organizations
  • respond to citizen inquiries and complaints address solve or forward complaints
  • may be assigned as facility liaison for social media and volunteer task force
  • perform other related duties as required
