Standard School District in Bakersfield, California, offers the Explore program, a free after-school initiative designed to enrich the educational and social experiences of students from Transitional Kindergarten (TK) through 8th grade. This program is delivered in partnership with the Network of Recreation (NOR) at multiple schools including Highland Elementary, Wingland Elementary, Standard Elementary, and Standard Middle School. Job Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- high school diploma or GED
- experience working with children
- must have 48 college units or paraprofessional certification or ability to pass paraprofessional test
- pass background check including fingerprinting
- submit TB test within past 60 days and subsequent tests every 4 years
- verification of identity and legal right to work in the United States
- ability to lift at least 15 pounds
- must obtain CPR and First Aid certification
- flexible work schedule including evenings and weekends
Job Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age

- experience working with children
- possess 48 college units or paraprofessional certification or ability to pass paraprofessional test
- knowledge of youth development
- ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems
- ability to create lesson plans and implement quality youth programs
- ability to assist with organizing and supervising members safely
- must pass CPR and First Aid certifications
- ability to communicate effectively, follow instructions, lead activities, and maintain confidentiality
- flexibility to work evenings and weekends
Job Duties
- Create an environment that facilitates youth development and promotes program participation
- assist in recruiting new members
- provide guidance and role modeling to members
- participate in weekly afterschool program staff meetings
- plan, implement and administer programs, services and activities
- monitor and evaluate programs for safety and quality
- prepare periodic activity reports
- create and submit daily lesson plans to Site Coordinator
- participate in special programs, trainings, and events
- assume other duties as assigned
