Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Business, Education, or related discipline
  • or Associate’s degree in Communications, Business, Education, or related discipline and two years of experience in student program/services environment
  • valid driver’s license
  • valid First Aid/CPR Certification
  • preferred USCG Merchant Mariner Credential
  • preferred USCG Master Limited (25/50/100 GRT) Endorsement or greater
  • evidence of demonstrated sensitivity to diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, geographic, gender, gender identity, and ethnic backgrounds
  • ability to complete required pre-employment processes including tuberculosis exam, Live Scan fingerprinting, and proof of U.S. work eligibility
  • willingness to work a full-time, 12-month schedule with possible extended hours or weekends
  • compliance with District policies including Code of Professional Ethics
  • authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Business, Education, or related discipline
  • or Associate’s degree in Communications, Business, Education, or related discipline with two years of experience in a student program/services environment
  • three years of experience with an adult student population preferred
  • demonstrated sensitivity to diversity including academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, geographic, gender, gender identity, and ethnic backgrounds
  • working knowledge of maritime program goals, objectives, procedures, and regulations
  • working knowledge of budgetary methods and cost analysis
  • knowledge of licensing and certification processes
  • knowledge of grant-funded programs and administrative processes
  • well-developed human relations and communication skills
  • proficiency with office productivity software such as databases, word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation graphics
  • math skills for financial and statistical record maintenance
  • ability to promote program services and activities
  • ability to interact productively with diverse populations

Job Duties

  • Coordinates and participates in day-to-day student services operations for designated USCG-approved courses, community education, contract education, and credit programs and activities
  • arranges adequate staffing
  • monitors and adjusts staffing assignments, and prioritizes services to ensure student needs are met in accordance with program goals
  • provides technical direction and information on policies and procedures
  • develops efficient processes for implementation of PMTC programs
  • coordinates administrative responsibilities including monitoring projects, budgets, and expenses
  • oversees and coordinates not-for-credit student enrollment processes
  • coordinates customer service, registration, eligibility, and processing of program forms
  • communicates expectations and provides guidance to staff and facility users
  • provides work direction for assigned temporary staff and student workers
  • creates and publishes course catalogs, bulletins, flyers, newsletters, certificates, and awards
  • develops program marketing and recruitment including community outreach and website/social media management
  • represents college in networking with other institutions and partners
  • serves as point person for event planning and facilitation
  • participates in recruiting and outreach events
  • follows up with tours and presentations
  • assists with fundraising events
  • communicates regularly with academic administrator on student concerns and safety
  • monitors enrollment and class schedules
  • facilitates arrangements for classroom and training site technologies
  • establishes and maintains master calendar for classes and events
  • provides first-level advising to students
  • coordinates and assists with staff training on safety and program policies
  • supports preparation and maintenance of course materials
  • serves as resource to provide administrative support for faculty and staff
  • prepares grant proposals
  • ensures compliance with USCG regulations
  • participates in budget proposal preparation and monitoring
  • submits data to national credentialing entities and assists students with credentialing process
  • maintains provider contracts and file documentation
  • organizes records and statistical data
  • recommends purchase and repairs of equipment
  • performs other related duties supporting position objectives
  • abides by District policies including Code of Professional Ethics
