Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
  • Three years of program administration experience or equivalent
  • Ability to pass Level 2 DCF background screening
  • Valid United States driver's license
  • Obtain Florida driver's license within 30 days
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as required
  • Ability to perform mathematical computations
  • Willingness to undergo drug testing
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in a relevant field
  • Three years of progressively responsible program administration experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Valid United States driver's license on appointment
  • Valid Florida driver's license within 30 days of start date
  • American Red Cross certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid if assigned to Recreation, Aquatics, or Nature divisions
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification required if assigned to Aquatics
  • National Recreation and Parks Association certification as Certified Parks and Recreation Professional required within 12 months of hire if assigned to Recreation division
  • Considerable knowledge of program planning and administration
  • Ability to analyze program effectiveness and recommend improvements
  • Knowledge of laws governing federal and state grant funding
  • Basic understanding of government finance, accounting and purchasing practices
  • Proficiency with computers and related software
  • Ability to supervise, plan, and evaluate staff
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to work effectively with public, funders, business owners, and community leaders
  • Good judgment, tact, and diplomacy

Job Duties

  • Develops, implements, and administers youth programs and events for the City
  • Serves as a primary contact for special event permits
  • Assists event organizers with the permitting process and coordinates application review with department approvers
  • Evaluates program effectiveness and makes recommendations for improvements
  • Assists in budget preparation and long-range planning
  • Develops and maintains policies, procedures, and administrative guidelines for staff
  • Reviews permit applications to ensure compliance with City ordinances
  • Coordinates public relations activities including speeches and press releases
  • Develops program materials such as brochures and newsletters
  • Serves as an expert and trainer for special event permit software
  • Supervises and trains assigned staff
  • Serves as liaison to advisory boards or friends groups
  • Develops community partnerships for programs and events
  • Assists with agency accreditation
  • Prepares, submits, and manages grant proposals and fundraising efforts
  • Researches grant sources and establishes fundraising goals
  • Prepares city commission agenda items related to grants
  • Maintains relationships with corporate and foundation sponsors
  • Provides progress reports to supervisor
  • Participates in organizational planning and staff meetings
  • Coordinates community groups and volunteers
  • Ensures compliance with State and local policies
  • Prepares reports and maintains tracking systems
  • Coordinates events with other city and external organizations
  • Interacts with citizens providing excellent customer service
  • Assists in development of new facilities or properties
  • Stays updated on program trends
  • Attends work regularly
  • Coordinates record keeping and enforces policies as required
  • Gives presentations to community groups and commissions
  • Participates in professional organizations
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
