Job Requirements

  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
  • able to lift up to 25 lbs
  • able to walk unassisted and move about freely
  • able to hear and talk to communicate with the public
  • educational background equivalent to associates degree with coursework in related field
  • must pass drug testing and background check including criminal history, SBI fingerprinting, motor vehicle records, education verification, and credit history review
  • able to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays
  • experience with community or family event planning or programming preferred
  • experience in marketing, social media content creation, or community engagement preferred

Job Qualifications

  • Associates degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in Parks and Recreation, Communication, Marketing, Event Management, or related field preferred

  • ability to communicate tactfully and constructively with the public and coworkers
  • ability to understand and effectively carry out verbal and written instructions

  • ability to remain organized and multitask
  • ability to work independently to create, plan, implement, and manage events
  • ability to acquire knowledge of Cary policies, procedures, and departmental services

Job Duties

  • Plans, implements, and manages community events
  • performs routine clerical and administrative duties including assisting at the community center front desk, registering patrons, answering phones, and running reports
  • assists in developing the purpose, goals, and focus of Cary events
  • develops and organizes financial and human resources to implement new and existing events
  • assists with facilitating the procurement of agreements with vendors, entertainers, and instructors, ensuring timely collection and maintenance of Certificates of Insurance
  • prepares and monitors event budgets and expenditures
  • performs marketing assistant tasks such as creating social media content, brochures, posters, and flyers
  • ensures assigned web pages are accurate, timely, and complete
  • works with performers and agents to determine fees and hire entertainers
  • researches, screens, and selects vendors for events
  • assists PRCR staff in program implementation, project development, and special projects
  • sets up activity rooms and gym
  • manages rental reservations, data entry, and general office duties
  • performs other job-related tasks as required
