Job Requirements
- Must be at minimum 18 years of age
- obtain and maintain basic first aid and pediatric CPR certification within 90 days of employment
- ability to perform medium to heavy physical work exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally
- clear pre-employment background check including criminal records and child abuse registry
- maintain valid driver’s license and comply with motor vehicle policies
- current or former Head Start/Early Head Start parent preference for qualified candidates
Job Qualifications
- Minimum high school diploma or G.E.D.
- certification as applicable by federal, state or local Head Start or childcare regulations
- professional proficiency in spoken and written English
- demonstrated knowledge of basics of working with infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children
- ability to relate sensitively with children and work effectively with staff, parents and families
- proven ability to follow directions and take initiative
- ability to keep all information on families strictly confidential
- demonstrated ability to work with children with disabilities
Job Duties
- Apply clear practice and procedure in day-to-day execution of job
- organize self and manage time to get things done
- keep manager informed of important issues
- build effective relationships within workgroup and with children and families
- understand and carry out oral and written instructions
- assist classroom staff in all classroom activities
- assist the teacher in any aspect of the program as needed
- serve as a temporary substitute for teaching staff
- provide custodial support including cleaning and minor maintenance
- serve as custodian in absence of regular custodian
- complete routine kitchen and dining room chores
- prepare and serve food, including for children with special needs
- participate in food service clean up and inventory
- substitute for regular kitchen staff as needed
- comply with hygiene and sanitation standards
- serve as a bus monitor as required
- attend workshops and meetings
- attend staff and parent meetings and activities
- understand Head Start program standards and childcare regulations
- promote Head Start positively in the community
- maintain strict confidentiality
- adhere to all Save the Children employee policies and procedures
