Job Requirements

  • Must have ability to make independent decisions

  • must perform regular inspections for sanitation, order, and safety
  • must seek out new housekeeping methods and incorporate them as appropriate
  • must follow mixing instructions for cleaning compounds and disinfectants
  • must be able to communicate resident condition information
  • must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday
  • must possess adequate sight and hearing or use prosthetics to function in these areas
  • must meet general health requirements set by the facility including medical and physical examinations
  • must be able to lift between 5 and 35 pounds periodically as needed
  • flexibility to work varied shifts including weekends

Job Qualifications

  • No formal education required
  • previous housekeeping experience preferred but not required
  • ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • knowledge of cleaning chemicals and proper usage
  • understanding of infection control and safety procedures
  • good communication skills
  • ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • willingness to participate in training and development programs
  • physical ability to perform housekeeping duties including lifting up to 35 pounds
  • adherence to HIPAA and OSHA regulations

Job Duties

  • Ensure that work and cleaning schedules are followed as closely as practical
  • report all accidents and incidents to your supervisor no matter how minor they may be
  • coordinate daily housekeeping and laundry services with nursing services when performing routine cleaning assignments
  • adhere to all HIPAA requirements
  • participate and assist in department meetings, studies, and projects as directed
  • attend and participate in in-service educational classes and annual facility in-service training programs
  • follow established fire safety policies and procedures
  • use safety equipment and supplies when lifting or moving heavy objects
  • maintain assigned work areas in a clean, safe, comfortable, and attractive manner
  • follow proper techniques when mixing chemicals and cleaning solutions
  • report all hazardous conditions or equipment to supervisor
  • ensure infection control and universal precautions during housekeeping procedures
  • dispose of refuse daily in accordance with sanitation procedures
  • coordinate routine and terminal isolation procedures with nursing service
  • maintain an adequate supply of housekeeping and laundry supplies
  • report supply needs and lighting issues to supervisor
  • assist others in lifting heavy equipment or supplies as directed
  • clean work and supply carts and equipment
  • perform day-to-day housekeeping functions including cleaning, disinfecting, polishing, vacuuming, and laundering resident clothing and linens
  • clean all facility areas including resident rooms, recreation areas, hallways, stairways, elevators, windows, mirrors, walls, ceilings, and floors
  • remove dirt, dust, grease, and film using appropriate cleaning solutions
  • turn in all found articles to supervisor
  • work effectively in all facility areas and communicate with personnel and visitors
  • attend continuing education programs
  • work on assigned shifts and alternate shifts as needed
