Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • ServSafe Food Safety Certification required
  • Food Handlers permit if required per state regulations
  • Six months experience in large quantity food preparation
  • Experience with therapeutic diet preparation preferred
  • Six months experience in a long term care environment preferred
  • Must be at least 18 years of age to comply with Federal Child Labor Laws

  • Knowledge of basic nutrition and food
  • Skilled in quantity food production
  • Ability to read and write at a level appropriate for the job
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents and family members
  • Ability to be patient and polite
  • Ability to be accurate, concise, and detail-oriented
  • Ability to read, speak, understand, and communicate effectively in English
  • Ability to do basic math

Job Duties

  • Prepares food for regular and therapeutic diets according to a planned menu
  • Prepares alternative items to meet residents’ individual needs and food preferences
  • Prepares and/or portions food using proper food handling and food safety techniques
  • Makes only authorized changes to the planned menu and records the change
  • Ensures that food tastes good and is served in an attractive, appetizing manner
  • Utilizes standardized recipes to prepare menu items
  • Ensures meals and snacks are delivered to designated areas on time
  • Maintains proper food temperatures during preparation and service
  • Labels, dates, and stores food properly
  • Washes dishes and kitchen items according to procedure
  • Maintains a clean and safe work area
  • Assists in receiving and verifying food and supply invoices
  • Uses supplies and equipment efficiently to prevent waste
  • Operates kitchen equipment safely and maintains equipment
  • Reports problems and makes recommendations to Culinary Manager
  • Works cooperatively with team members and interacts positively with residents and visitors
  • Ensures punctuality and regular attendance for shifts
