Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in food preparation or cooking (childcare, school, or healthcare setting preferred)
  • Valid Food Handler's Certificate (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire)
  • Knowledge of safe food storage, portioning, and sanitation practices
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs and move efficiently in a busy kitchen environment
  • Must meet DCF and Level 2 fingerprinting requirements
  • A positive, reliable, and caring attitude-someone who takes pride in serving nutritious meals to children each day

Job Duties

  • Plan, prepare, and cook nutritious meals and snacks that meet USDA child care nutrition guidelines
  • Maintain and track food allergies and communicate daily with classroom teachers to ensure each child's safety
  • Prepare meals free of nuts and pork using approved substitutes like Wow Butter or sunflower butter
  • Follow all food safety, handling, and sanitation procedures and maintain a clean, organized kitchen environment
  • Collaborate with the Center Leadership Team to order supplies, manage food inventory, and track records as required by state agencies
  • Work efficiently within a no-stove kitchen setup using convection ovens, crock pots, and blenders
  • Support teachers during meal service and help create a fun, positive dining experience for children
  • Occasionally assist with special themed lunches or family events that bring the community together
