Job Requirements

  • high school graduate or GED equivalent
  • some familiarity with custodial and cleaning methods
  • ability to read and write sufficiently to perform job duties
  • ability to learn the methods, practices, techniques, and procedures peculiar to the position
  • ability to understand and follow oral instructions
  • ability to work harmoniously with fellow workers and others
  • ability and willingness to work in a manner that will not endanger the safety of oneself, other persons, and equipment
  • sufficient strength to perform moderate to heavy lifting, carrying, and routine custodial tasks

Job Duties

  • cleaning assigned work areas such as food preparation and service areas, restrooms, equipment, and furniture
  • storing, stocking, and delivering supplies and equipment including foodstuffs, prescriptions, and linens
  • operating equipment and machinery including autoclaves, vacuum cleaners, floor polishers, and office equipment
  • running errands such as picking up and delivering forms, lists, and reports
  • transporting soiled and clean linen to and from laundry areas, sorting and weighing linens, loading and unloading washers and dryers, and keeping daily records of laundry functions
  • moving various items such as furniture, furnishings, and trash containers
  • demonstrating effective judgment and ability to understand and respond to the unique needs of patient age groups served
