Job Requirements
- Minimum age of 21 years
- Two to three years related experience preferred
- Current YMCA Life Guard or Red Cross Life Guard certification
- Ability to obtain YMCA Life Guard certification within 30 days of hire
- Ability to obtain YMCA Swim Instructor Certification
- Ability to obtain ASHI certification in CPR for the Professional Rescuer Basic First Aid Emergency Oxygen and Child Abuse Prevention Training before first scheduled shift
- Ability to read interpret retain and teach safety rules maintenance instructions and aquatics education manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of children parents members and staff one-on-one
- Ability to add subtract multiply and divide using whole numbers common fractions and decimals
- Ability to apply common sense understanding and sound judgment to carry out instructions
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and be sensitive to the needs safety and feelings of others
- Ability to follow YMCA policies procedures and state health department code requirements
- Ability to physically perform required tasks including lifting up to 50 pounds frequent standing walking climbing balancing stooping kneeling crawling and performing water rescues
Job Qualifications
- Minimum age of 21 years

- Demonstrated proficiency in life guard skills in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures
- Current YMCA Life Guard or Red Cross Life Guard certification and obtain YMCA Life Guard certification within 30 days of hire
- Current or must obtain YMCA Swim Instructor Certification
- Current or must obtain before first scheduled shift ASHI certification in CPR for the Professional Rescuer Basic First Aid Emergency Oxygen and YOTS Child Abuse Prevention Training

Job Duties
- Knows and understands all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately and appropriately in accordance with YMCA standards policies and procedures
- Provides lead assistance in any emergency situation and activates emergency communication plan
- Enforces safety rules swim testing procedures policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatics areas consistently
- Performs maintenance of pool and pool areas including vacuuming cleaning pool deck tiles and trash-pick-up and adjusts chemicals as needed
- Ensures pool chemical testing daily equipment checks opening and closing procedures and accurate records are maintained
- Checks for pool hazards upon arrival and continuously monitors risks to prevent accidents
- Maintains all required certifications in accordance with YMCA standards policies and procedures
- Provides leadership and guidance for life guards and swim instructors
- Performs aquatics audits drills and skill evaluations
- Documents and informs Director of incidents accidents member concerns damaged equipment and supply needs
- Creates and coordinates life guard and swim instructor schedules including substitutions
- Coordinates and schedules use of aquatics facilities for program activities and events
- Attends and assists the Aquatics Director with staff meetings and trainings ensuring compliance with standards policies and health department codes
- Participates in YMCA Annual Campaign fundraising activities and special events
- Reports suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations
- Follows mandated abuse and incident reporting requirements
- Meets timelines and deadlines related to supporting systems and employee compliance including time sheet reviews
