Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 15 years old
  • Have six months of pool lifeguard experience preferred
  • Possess current lifeguard training certification
  • Hold CPR/AED certification for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent
  • Hold Standard First Aid certification or equivalent
  • Ability to use and maintain pool equipment
  • Understanding and enforcement of safety protocols
  • Ability to pass physical ability tests
  • Clear national and state background checks is required

Job Qualifications

  • Must be at least 15 years old
  • Six months of experience as a pool lifeguard preferred
  • Current nationally recognized certifications including lifeguard training, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent, Standard First Aid or equivalent
  • Ability to use and maintain pool equipment
  • Understanding and ability to enforce safety regulations
  • Ability to use equipment to take pool readings
  • Ability to pass initial and recurrent physical ability tests
  • Successful completion of national and state background checks

Job Duties

  • Maintain order at the swimming pool facility
  • Maintain continuous surveillance of patrons in swimming pools
  • Ensure appropriate headcount of patrons involved in swimming or water sports hourly
  • Call out warnings or take appropriate action for patrons in danger
  • Provide safety information to patrons prior to water activities
  • Supervise patrons to ensure compliance with safety protocols
  • Enforce safety and pool rules to protect patrons from hazards
  • Perform rescue work and administer emergency first aid
  • Call for medical assistance as necessary
  • Perform water and land rescues following training standards
  • Manage respiratory and cardiac emergencies including CPR, bag-valve-mask resuscitation, or AED use
  • Maintain emergency equipment such as rescue kits and oxygen delivery systems
  • Control external bleeding and treat shock
  • Splint and immobilize fractures and dislocations
  • Obtain critical medical history from patrons
  • Stabilize patrons using emergency medical techniques for transport
  • Assist life support or paramedic staff
  • Administer swim tests
  • Schedule lane and pool space usage
  • Instruct patrons on swimming etiquette and techniques
  • Check IDs and collect fees when applicable
  • Conduct opening and closing procedures of the facility
  • Identify and prevent hazards
  • Report safety hazards to supervisor
  • Complete incident reports and maintain documentation
  • Ensure proper disposal of medical waste
  • Maintain cleanliness of buildings and pool areas
  • Perform routine pool maintenance including vacuuming and skimming
  • Check and maintain rescue tubes and buoys
  • Store pool equipment safely
  • Operate water pumps and control chemical additives
  • Apply disinfectants as needed
  • Participate in continuous rescue and lifesaving training
  • Provide world-class customer service with courtesy
  • Communicate positively and professionally with customers
  • Take quick action to solve problems
  • Alert supervisors to problems
  • Adhere to safety regulations and EEO principles
  • Report workplace hazards and incidents
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • Lift and carry objects up to 45lbs independently
  • Work in various weather conditions
  • Perform physically demanding rescue work when needed
