Job Requirements
- Culinary education preferred or comparable experience
- Serve Safe Certified
- Minimum 3 years experience supervising food service staff
- Minimum 3 years culinary or cooking experience
- Minimum 1 year Kitchen Management preferred
- Ability to lift and carry at least 50 lbs
- Ability to work in hot and cold environments
- Ability to stand and move around most workday
- Ability to safely use kitchen tools and equipment including sharp objects
- Flexible schedule including early mornings, late nights, weekends and holidays
- Clean driving record for 3 years and comply with driving guidelines
- Adherence to MHA’s mission, vision, culture code and standards of conduct
- Adherence to dress code and professional grooming standards
- Satisfactory background check or valid work permit
- Eligibility to work in the United States
Job Qualifications
- Culinary education preferred or comparable work experience
- Serve Safe Certified
- Minimum 3 years’ experience supervising food service staff
- Minimum 3 years of culinary or cooking experience
- Minimum 1 year of Kitchen Management preferred
- Christian ministry or volunteer experience preferred
- Excellent communication, problem solving and organizational skills
- Ability to cook a variety of foods in a timely, clean and sanitary manner
- Demonstrated ability to produce delicious meals in large quantities
- Excellent knife skills
- Ability to supervise dishwashing and kitchen cleaning tasks
- Ability to work pleasantly and courteously under stress
- Professional demeanor, adaptable, flexible, self-motivated
- Ability to follow directions and procedures
- Competence in food taste, presentation, portion control, and costing
- Ability to manage a dynamic, part-time, entry-level workforce
- Cooperative spirit and eagerness to learn
- Ability to work independently
- Proficient in MS Excel and Word, skilled in food service math
- Bilingual skills a plus
- Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking) required
Job Duties
- Oversee all PL food operations including meal preparation, food and supply ordering and inventory, personnel management, and equipment upkeep
- Recruit, train, schedule, supervise and continually monitor food service staff
- Collaborate with supervisors and MHA management to support Food Service Department vision
- Create recipes, review menus, provide production sheets, and communicate order needs accurately
- Monitor food costs, supplies, and labor against budget
- Ensure dining room is clean, sanitary, and properly set for meals
- Supervise and coordinate cleanup duties with staff and guest groups
- Enforce dress code and training for injury and illness prevention
- Respond to emergencies and report suspected foodborne illness
- Coordinate maintenance, repair, and deep cleaning with other departments
- Document food consumption, surplus utilization, and donations
- Manage kitchen staff through training, meetings, coaching, and performance evaluations
- Enforce health and safety codes, building security, and proper care of facilities
- Perform other duties as assigned by management
