Job Requirements
- Associate's degree from an accredited institution
- Minimum 1 year experience as a technician, systems programmer, Planetarium staff, or multimedia/broadcast production environment
- Minimum 1 year supervisory experience
- Ability to install, repair, maintain and upgrade Planetarium audio/visual projection equipment
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to speak comfortably in front of large audiences
- Proficiency with computers and standard software applications
- Knowledge of astronomy and space exploration
- Demonstrated supervisory skills
Job Qualifications
- Associate’s degree from an accredited institution, preferably in a technical field
- At least one year experience as a technician, systems programmer, Planetarium staff, or multimedia/broadcast production environment
- One year supervisory experience
- Proven ability to maintain and repair complex Planetarium projection systems including optical, mechanical, digital, laser, audio, and lighting equipment
- Demonstrated customer service and communication skills
- Ability to convey basic astronomy knowledge effectively to diverse audiences
- Proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, InDesign, and Photoshop
- Experience in training and supervising staff
- Working knowledge of general astronomy and current space exploration efforts
Job Duties
- Manage the day-to-day technical operations of the Mayborn Science Theater facility
- Develop, implement and maintain preventative maintenance, maintenance and troubleshooting standard operating procedures for the Planetarium facility and all Planetarium equipment
- Supervise and lead the Planetarium Lead Assistant and all part-time Planetarium Assistants
- Develop, implement, and maintain ongoing training of employees in the operation of all Planetarium equipment, theater systems, and sub-systems
- Facilitate the presentation of large format films, laser shows, Planetarium night sky and solar system tours for large audiences
- Assist in production and show coverage as needed
- Conduct and facilitate regular preventative maintenance and repairs of all audio/visual production and presentation equipment including optics and electronics
- Identify and evaluate emerging Planetarium related technologies suitable for potential implementation
- Serve as the primary point of contact during the Director's absence, overseeing daily operations and responding to urgent matters
- Assist in the selection and scheduling of shows and events and coordinate maintenance and staff schedules
- Develop the annual Mayborn Science Theater budget in concert with the Director
