Job Requirements

  • Commercial pilot certificate or Airline Transport Pilot License
  • Current FAA First or Second Class Medical Certificate
  • Minimum 1500 total flight hours with required helicopter and pilot-in-command hours
  • Night flying experience
  • Ability to work rotating shifts including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Physical health and weight not to exceed 240 pounds
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respond to changing environments
  • Willingness to work at any Avera Careflight base or location as needed

Job Qualifications

  • Commercial Pilot - Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) commercial certificate and instrument rating upon hire or Airline Transport Pilot License - Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate valid for Rotorcraft Category, Helicopter Class upon hire
  • Current First or Second Class FAA Medical Certificate upon hire
  • Minimum 1500 total flight hours including 1200 hours in helicopters and 1000 hours of pilot-in-command rotorcraft hours
  • 100 unaided night hours or 50 unaided with 100 aided night hours and 500 hours of turbine time
  • Ability to work specified hours and communicate effectively

Job Duties

  • Obtains weather briefing and prepares flight plans considering altitude, terrain, weather, fuel load, and airport facilities
  • Ensures that all flight operations are conducted safely and in compliance with all FAR'S, Operations Specifications, and Avera's policies/procedures
  • Ensures that all check list items are complied with according to the Aircraft Flight Manual
  • Consults with Leader of Operations in solving operational problems and procedures
  • Responsible and accountable for the ongoing operations of the flight program in compliance with established safety/quality standards, goals and objectives
  • Coordinates with the Leader of Maintenance the timely correction of mechanical irregularities and discrepancies and scheduled maintenance
  • Responds to flight requests within the guidelines of the flight program and assists crew with loading and unloading
