Job Requirements

  • Four thousand logged hours of flying time in helicopters including power-off-auto rotational landings
  • one thousand five hundred hours flown in mountainous terrain above 4,000 feet for firefighting or similar operations
  • valid Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate with Rotorcraft-Helicopter Rating or valid Commercial Pilot certificate with Rotorcraft-Helicopter Rating
  • current and valid First Class or Second Class FAA Aviation Medical certificate
  • valid driver license required with ability to obtain California C Driver License upon appointment
  • willingness to work any shift including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays

Job Qualifications

  • Four thousand logged hours of helicopter flying time including power-off-auto rotational landings
  • one thousand five hundred hours flown in mountainous terrain for fire control or similar work
  • valid Airline Transport Pilot certificate with Rotorcraft-Helicopter Rating or valid Commercial Pilot certificate with Rotorcraft-Helicopter Rating issued by FAA
  • current first or second class FAA Aviation Medical certificate
  • valid driver license
  • experience as Pilot in Command
  • commercial pilot certificate with Helicopter Instrument Rating is desirable

Job Duties

  • Operate twin-turbine-powered aircraft over mountainous or hilly terrain to assist firefighting activities
  • transport personnel and equipment during fire suppression operations
  • conduct aerial drops of fire retardants and water
  • patrol mountains to detect fires or locate missing persons and aircraft
  • reseed burnt-over areas from the air
  • perform pre-flight and post-flight inspections
  • communicate with air traffic control and supported ground units
  • complete FAA and Fire Department documentation
  • participate in flight evaluations, ground crew training, and mandated continuing education
