Job Requirements

  • High school diploma, high school equivalency or completion of a CHS approved Individualized Education Plan (IEP) certificate
  • Current CPT or CPTII certification in the state of California
  • Experience performing venipuncture and skin puncture
  • Ability to accurately collect and label specimens according to regulations
  • Proficiency in data entry and computer use
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety and infection control procedures
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to train and support new phlebotomy staff

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma, high school equivalency or completion of a CHS approved Individualized Education Plan (IEP) certificate
  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) state of California certification or Certified Phlebotomy Technician II (CPTII) state of California certification
  • Experience with venipuncture and skin puncture collection techniques
  • Proficiency in data entry and basic computer skills
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety and infection control protocols
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to train and mentor new staff

Job Duties

  • Identify patients appropriately and collect blood specimens via venipuncture and/or skin puncture
  • Follow applicable regulations, policies and procedures for specimen collection and labeling
  • Utilize appropriate techniques to maintain specimen integrity and minimize rejections
  • Perform accurate and timely data entry of test requests and patient information
  • Maintain a safe and clean laboratory environment according to regulatory standards
  • Handle specimens following infection control policies and procedures
  • Provide clerical support including answering phones, processing mail, filing, reporting test results, and resolving lab order issues
  • Serve as a resource to patient care staff and assist in clarifying test requests
  • Train and orient new phlebotomy employees and students to ensure a productive staff
