Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent or post high school degree
  • one year experience as a pharmacy technician
  • certified pharmacy technician with the state board of pharmacy
  • knowledge of medical and pharmacy terminology
  • knowledge of state board of pharmacy, department of health, DEA rules and regulations
  • problem solving abilities
  • ability to work in team situations and handle urgent, stressful conditions
  • proficient computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Performs all technician functions specific to the space that the pharmacy technician is responsible for supporting
  • hazardous compounding as a significant portion of scheduled shifts
  • interprets and prepares medication orders by filling provider orders, medication kits/trays, automated dispensing cabinets, and floor stock requisitions
  • demonstrates proficiency with work-related computer and automation skills including problem solving for automated dispensing cabinets and pharmacy-specific technologies
  • contributes to the financial and operational well-being through inventory system management
  • performs shift/site technical leadership at acute care sites with less than 350 registered inpatient beds or less than 8 technicians (retail)
  • provides excellent customer service including timely phone response and clean work area maintenance
  • participates in training and mentoring new personnel and interns
  • creates patient profiles in multiple software systems
  • conducts benefits investigations on specialty prescriptions
  • assists pharmacists with prior authorizations and appeals
  • clarifies orders with pharmacists and providers
  • coordinates initial fills and refills for specialty medications
  • educates patients and caregivers about specialty pharmacy services
  • facilitates and schedules medication deliveries including home delivery and intercampus courier
  • documents progress in software platforms including EMR and dispensing software
  • follows up with offices and patients to ensure medication receipt
  • orders and maintains medication inventory
  • complies with medication concierge program workflows for Prisma Health discharges
  • aids auditing and compliance of the 340B program focused on mixed-use settings
  • acts as liaison between 340B program leadership and site leadership
  • participates in site visits and discussions for new 340B sites
  • supports system and automation roles approved by Pharmacy Director
  • supports education and training of pharmacists and technicians
  • maintains excellent customer service skills with various stakeholders
  • participates in quality assurance and performance improvement projects
  • adheres to compounding regulatory guidelines
  • contributes to pharmacy enterprise activities
  • performs other duties as assigned
