Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent or post high school degree
  • One year experience as a pharmacy technician
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician with the State Board of Pharmacy
  • Knowledge of medical and pharmacy terminology
  • Knowledge of state BOP, Department of Health, and DEA rules and regulations
  • Proficient computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases
  • Ability to work in team settings and handle stressful conditions
  • Data entry and mathematical skills
  • Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with aseptic techniques

Job Duties

  • Perform all technician functions specific to the pharmacy area assigned
  • Conduct hazardous compounding regularly during scheduled shifts
  • Interpret and prepare medication orders including provider orders, medication kits, trays, automated dispensing cabinets, and floor stock requisitions
  • Manage controlled substances according to regulations and policies
  • Utilize pharmacy technology for automated dispensing cabinets, inventory management systems, label printers, unit dose packing, and IV room automation
  • Enter patient charges and credits accurately
  • Oversee inventory management for both perpetual and manual systems
  • Serve as shift or site technical lead at smaller acute care or retail sites
  • Provide excellent customer service including timely phone and pharmacy window response
  • Participate in training and mentoring of new pharmacy personnel
  • Create patient profiles using multiple software systems
  • Conduct benefits investigation on specialty prescriptions and assist with prior authorizations and appeals
  • Clarify medication orders with pharmacists or providers as necessary
  • Coordinate initial fills and refills for specialty medications
  • Educate patients and caregivers on specialty pharmacy services
  • Manage medication delivery logistics
  • Document progress in various pharmacy software platforms
  • Follow up to ensure medication receipt by patients
  • Order and maintain inventory of medications
  • Comply with policies for medication concierge program and discharge medication assessment
  • Support 340B program auditing, compliance, education, and site coordination
  • Participate in pharmacy system and automation support roles
  • Deliver education and training within pharmacy expertise
  • Maintain communication with stakeholders including patients, prescribers, and pharmacy staff
  • Engage in quality assurance and performance improvement projects
  • Adhere to regulatory guidelines for sterile and non-sterile compounding
  • Support pharmacy enterprise activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned
