Job Requirements

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Ability to work autonomously manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines efficiently
  • Staying updated on community developments particularly in animal welfare
  • High degree of accuracy and meticulous attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal written and observational skills
  • Self-starter with goal-oriented mindset willing to exceed work schedules to meet deadlines
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license with valid registration and insurance
  • Demonstrated commitment to the welfare of animals and alignment with NHS mission
  • Consistently treat animals with compassion and promote these values
  • Strict adherence to local regulations concerning pet ownership
  • Comprehensive understanding of pet behavior and care
  • Maintaining a positive and professional demeanor
  • Sincere interest in NHS’s mission and vision

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in marketing communications or a related field
  • Basic proficiency with Canva or other design software
  • Strong writing and editing skills for short-form content
  • Ability to follow brand guidelines and maintain consistency
  • Comfort and competence in handling animals including large dogs for marketing
  • Basic photography skills and willingness to learn videography
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple deadlines
  • Experience in nonprofit or animal-welfare marketing preferred
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and basic video editing
  • Demonstrated success in storytelling for web email and social media
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics 4 UTM tagging and reporting
  • Experience managing content in a CMS and building email campaigns
  • Knowledge of SEO and keyword research
  • Experience running basic paid ad campaigns
  • Experience photographing or filming animals and events
  • College degree preferred
  • Experience in a nonprofit agency
  • Animal welfare experience

Job Duties

  • Source write and design compelling adoption and post adoption content that showcases adoptable pets and celebrates adoption success stories
  • Capture and edit high-quality images and videos that bring out each pet’s personality and encourage adoption
  • Maintain accurate appealing pet listings on the NHS website adoption platforms and in-shelter displays
  • Create adoption-focused email campaigns under the Marketing Director’s guidance
  • Create and post adoption content on NHS social channels manage an adoption-focused content calendar and engage with followers
  • Execute targeted small-scale paid promotions to increase pet visibility
  • Support adoptable pets’ participation in media appearances off-site adoption events and public events
  • Collaborate on fee-waived adoption events themed campaigns and adoption promotions
  • Monitor adoption content performance share insights and adjust strategies
  • Partner with Animal Care Foster Volunteer and Adoption teams to gather pet information schedule photo sessions and prioritize urgent animals
  • Safely and confidently handle animals including large dogs for promotional purposes
  • Help promote fundraising activities and solicit support
  • Interact with co-workers and volunteers in a courteous manner
  • Maintain and promote a positive public image
  • Represent NHS professionally with customers donors and partners
  • Attend departmental and shelter meetings and educational conferences
  • Assist with animal handling and evacuation during emergencies
  • Participate in disaster preparedness and response activities
  • Address and report safety hazards
  • Perform other responsibilities as requested
