Job Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED
  • basic cardiac life support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association within 60 days of hire
  • ability to safely lift and move patients
  • ability to communicate effectively using radio equipment
  • maintain patient confidentiality
  • ability to follow hospital policies and procedures
  • physical capability to operate transport equipment and perform patient lifts
  • ability to work full time, including day shifts

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate or GED
  • basic cardiac life support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association within 60 days of hire
  • strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • ability to operate patient transport equipment
  • capability to perform assigned clinical and technical competencies
  • willingness to attend ongoing training sessions
  • professional appearance and demeanor
  • ability to effectively work within a healthcare team

Job Duties

  • Transport patients by assisting with entry and exit from vehicles
  • lift patients on and off beds
  • move patients to special service and treatment areas and operating rooms
  • operate wheelchairs and moveable beds
  • maintain a neat and professional appearance
  • communicate effectively using CTD radio and appropriate radio etiquette
  • identify patients properly before transport
  • ensure patient privacy and confidentiality
  • notify nursing staff before and after transports
  • attend to patient comfort and safety during transport
  • assist the Central Transportation Department as needed
  • inform receiving departments of patient arrivals
  • report changes and delays in transport status
  • maintain transportation equipment and report malfunctions
  • attend training on equipment use
  • assist with data entry and departmental training
  • operate specialized transportation equipment safely
  • assume responsibility for patient and non-patient transportation activities
  • adhere to hospital mission and values
