Job Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Completion of a 9-month program in a medical career college with a focus on front office duties or Medical Assistant degree preferred
  • Two or more years of experience in medical office receptionist, patient access, or medical scheduler roles preferred
  • Experience in primary care or specialty physician office settings preferred
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to organize tasks, develop action plans, set priorities, and function effectively in stressful situations
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships within and outside the department
  • Good and regular attendance
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking fluent English
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to perform other related duties as assigned
  • Less than 1 percent travel required

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Greets patients as they arrive at the clinic
  • Checks patients in and completes the intake process including insurance verification and updating demographic information
  • Performs electronic chart pre-load process
  • Scans documents to the patient electronic chart
  • Collects and posts co-pays and other monies due at the time of service for current and past-due balances
  • Answers phone calls and takes necessary actions including utilizing messaging systems and overhead triage paging
  • Performs daily opening and closing procedures including telephone management and generating morning close-out reports
  • Creates, modifies, and cancels patient appointments for scheduling
  • Documents requests for medication refills in the electronic system
  • Manages medical records both hard-copy and electronic
  • Multitasks effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Communicates clearly and pleasantly with patients and staff while making decisive decisions
  • Participates in orientation, instruction, and training of new personnel
  • Performs additional duties as assigned and follows management directives
