Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Prior experience in patient registration or healthcare preferred
  • Basic knowledge of patient registration processes
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and handle pressure
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
  • Proficiency with computer systems and software
  • Ability to work flexible hours or at different locations as required

Job Duties

  • Serve as the primary point of contact between patients and physician practices
  • Provide strong communication and excellent customer service by greeting patients respectfully
  • Answer internal and external calls, route calls, schedule patients, and enter information accurately and timely
  • Process patients as they present for appointments
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly to maintain patient flow and inform supervisor of any issues
  • Process admission paperwork including basic insurance verification and correct registration errors
  • Record time indicators for lobby wait times
  • Calculate patient liabilities and collect and process payments
  • Reconcile cash drawer at the end of the day
  • Perform charge entry for external services as necessary
  • Schedule referrals or follow-up appointments and assist patients with online scheduling and MyChart
  • Assist patients in obtaining necessary referrals and record referrals on tracking tools
  • Obtain authorizations and pre-certifications for scheduled procedures
  • Pull patient charts, file and maintain information according to policy, and route charts to clinical staff
  • Verify prescription benefits in electronic health record
  • Refer patients to financial counselors when additional counseling or payment arrangements are needed
  • Complete accounts in revenue cycle software
