Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • one or more years of experience in food preparation or related field
  • ability to work part-time shifts as specified
  • basic kitchen skills and knowledge of food safety practices
  • ability to communicate effectively with nursing staff and team members
  • physical ability to perform repetitive tasks such as standing, cutting and lifting
  • willingness to adhere to organizational policies and procedures

Job Duties

  • Prepares and cooks to order foods requiring short preparation times
  • reads food order or receives verbal instructions
  • maintains patient diet orders and communicates with nursing staff if issues arise
  • contacts dietician on call when problems arise with patient diet orders
  • prepares and cooks food according to instructions
  • performs fast food cooking duties
  • follows basic product directions for preparing, cooking and serving food
  • prepares foods by operating kitchen equipment, measures and mixes ingredients, washes, peels, cuts and shreds vegetables
  • tastes products, reads menus, estimates food requirements, checks production and keeps records
  • cleans and sanitizes work stations and equipment according to regulatory rules
  • promotes effective teamwork
  • displays professional behavior and positive attitude
  • adheres to organizational policies and procedures
  • effectively manages hospital resources such as time, supplies and equipment
  • performs professional, clinical and technical competencies of the assigned unit or department
  • performs other duties as assigned as required
