Job Requirements

  • Completion of a State of California Department of Health Services approved Nursing Assistant training program or equivalent education or experience
  • American Heart Association Provider Basic Life Support certification required within 60 days of employment
  • must maintain RQI Provider certification and competency
  • maintain all health requirements designated by Kern Medical Center
  • possess and maintain specific certificates of competency as a condition of employment if required
  • some assignments may require Basic Dysrhythmia certification
  • ability to stand, bend, squat, kneel, push and pull intermittently throughout the day
  • ability to lift and support patients during transfers
  • may require valid California Driver's License for driving assignments
  • consent to background check
  • willingness to serve as Disaster Service Worker

Job Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a State of California Department of Health Services approved Nursing Assistant training program
  • or one year of education toward an Associate's or Baccalaureate degree in Nursing
  • or two years of experience as a Nursing Attendant in an acute care or psychiatric skilled nursing facility
  • ability to perform basic nursing care and read and record medical terminology and metric measurement
  • maintain medical records
  • follow oral and written instructions
  • maintain effective relations with medical staff and the public
  • ability to stand, bend, squat, kneel, push and pull throughout the workday
  • ability to lift, carry, partially carry, or support patients during transfers
  • basic dysrhythmia certification may be required depending on assignment

Job Duties

  • Assists with patient observation and care including checking and recording vital signs and pain levels
  • collects specimens and measures and records intake and output of food and fluids
  • passes and observes food trays and assists or feeds patients
  • assists patients with personal hygiene and grooming
  • answers call signals, makes beds, cleans and cares for equipment
  • adheres to isolation precautions, medical asepsis and infection control practices, and observes oxygen precautions
  • transports patients for admission, discharge, and procedures and transports specimens to the lab
  • performs general clerical duties and operates various office equipment
  • assists with admitting, transferring and discharging patients by inputting data into Electronic Medical Records
  • schedules appointments and follows up on authorizations
  • answers telephones and provides basic information to patients and other parties
  • coordinates delivery of equipment and other services following patient discharge
  • performs other related job duties as required
