Job Requirements
- high school diploma or equivalent education
- eighteen months of certified nursing assistant, certified medical assistant, or patient care assistant experience
- one year secretarial, office, college, vocational training, or six months internal cross-training within Houston Methodist
- prior health care experience and/or medical terminology preferred
- current BLS certification from American Heart Association
- ability to safely perform delegated nursing assistant tasks
- proficiency in English speaking, reading, and writing
- ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, family members, and coworkers
- ability to assist with patient hygiene, elimination, comfort, safety, nutrition, and activity
- ability to operate and troubleshoot equipment
- proficient computer skills
Job Qualifications
- high school diploma or equivalent education
- eighteen months of experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, or Patient Care Assistant
- one year of secretarial, office, college, vocational training, or six months of internal cross-training within Houston Methodist
- prior healthcare experience and knowledge of medical terminology preferred
- basic life support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
- proficient computer application skills
- effective communication skills with patients, families, physicians, and coworkers
- ability to operate office and medical equipment
Job Duties
- perform delegated nursing assistant tasks to support patient care
- assist patients with activities of daily living including hygiene, elimination, comfort, safety, nutrition, and mobility
- answer and direct incoming telephone calls for the unit
- coordinate patient bed management and transfers in collaboration with the Operations Administrator
- manage daily unit reports and documentation including shift and charge nurse reports
- communicate and collaborate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare team members
- conduct hourly rounding to assess patient needs and promote safety and satisfaction
- facilitate the maintenance and coordination of equipment and supplies within the unit
- contribute to quality and safety improvement initiatives such as preventing falls and hospital-acquired infections
- assist with workload management and resource utilization to promote cost-effective care
- participate in performance improvement projects and professional development activities
