Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED or one year previous job experience
- Six months experience as Patient & Family Concierge or equivalent
- Desire to provide exceptional patient and family experience
- Demonstrated competency in all Patient & Family Concierge duties
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Completion of one annual contribution such as committee participation, departmental projects, peer interviewing, or onboarding
- Act 34 clearance
- Compassion and drive for patient service
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Strong communication skills
- Willingness to perform a variety of duties in a fast-paced ICU setting.
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Six months experience as a Patient & Family Concierge or similar role
- Demonstrated competency in patient and family concierge responsibilities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Internal promotions based on business unit assessment
- Completion of one annual contribution such as committee participation or peer interviewing
- Compassionate and driven to provide exceptional patient and family experience
- Knowledge of hospital policies and procedures
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
- Basic administrative skills
- Familiarity with infection control procedures.
Job Duties
- Answers unit phones and transfers to appropriate staff
- Responds to call lights under Nursing Assistant/PCT direction
- Interacts and socializes with patients and assesses patient needs
- Rounds hourly to ensure all areas of responsibility are met satisfactorily
- Prints and distributes daily plans of care
- Prompts patient mobility as appropriate, involving the appropriate clinical staff as needed
- Maintains resources like pamphlets, department contacts depending on unit
- Completes audits such as DOH POC, hand hygiene, TJC tracers depending on unit
- Adheres to hand hygiene and infection control procedures consistently
- Follows mandatory reporting procedures for incidents or events affecting patient care
- Exhibits UPMC values and Experience key behaviors (AIDET + The Promise, 10-5 Rule, Escort Don’t Direct, Own Your Zone)
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Greets patients and families warmly and provides verbal direction and escort assistance
- Disseminates patient information appropriately while respecting confidentiality
- Serves as reference for visiting hours, directions, package delivery, hospital policies
- Issues courtesy parking discounts and patient scooters
- Assists with parking cashier functions
- Tracks patient belongings upon admission
- Cleans, removes trash, empties linen hampers, organizes assigned areas
- Replenishes supplies and makes beds following cleaning procedures
- Inspects assigned areas and reports maintenance issues
- Assembles and serves meals per diet orders
- Maintains food safety and quality applying HACCP principles
- Delivers and sets up patient meal trays and nourishments
- Transports patients, equipment, and lab specimens safely and accurately
- Performs equipment inspections and disinfects transportation equipment
- Orders, organizes, and delivers unit-specific supplies and equipment
- Stocks patient room supplies and maintains inventory including temperature logs
- Completes administrative functions like coordinating patient tests, scheduling transports
- Responds to calls providing courteous service
- Prints reports, maintains charts, updates bedboards, enters physician orders timely
- Manages equipment and malfunction reports
- Distributes patient and unit mail
- Monitors noise levels and initiates quiet times as needed.
