Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or active high school/GED program enrollment
  • one year of previous job experience in lieu of high school diploma/GED
  • ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • desire, drive, and compassion to provide exceptional patient and family experience
  • availability for rotating weekend and holiday shifts
  • Act 34 clearance
  • adherence to infection control and hand hygiene protocols

Job Duties

  • Greets patients and families warmly and provides direction and escort assistance
  • disseminates patient information while respecting confidentiality
  • issues courtesy parking discounts and manages patient scooters
  • assists with parking cashier functions and validates patient parking
  • establishes tracking of patient belongings
  • cleans and organizes assigned areas including patient rooms and public spaces
  • replenishes supplies and makes beds in patient discharge rooms
  • reports maintenance problems
  • assembles and serves meals according to diet orders and safety standards
  • maintains food safety and sanitation
  • delivers patient meal trays and other nourishments
  • transports patients, equipment, and lab specimens safely and timely
  • performs inspections and disinfects transportation equipment
  • records transportation data and reports abnormal activities
  • orders and organizes unit specific supplies and equipment
  • stocks patient rooms and supplies
  • monitors refrigerator and supply expiration dates
  • inventories and manages pumps and equipment
  • answers unit phones and transfers calls
  • responds to call lights under Nursing Assistant/PCT direction
  • interacts with patients to assess needs
  • rounds hourly to ensure responsibilities are met
  • prints and distributes daily plans of care
  • prompts patient mobility as appropriate
  • maintains resources like pamphlets and contacts
  • adheres to hand hygiene and infection control protocols
  • follows mandatory reporting procedures for incidents
  • exhibits UPMC values and key behaviors
  • performs other system-wide competencies and duties as assigned
