Job Description
The Michaels Companies Inc. is a leading retail destination in North America focused on providing creative and celebratory supplies to millions of customers. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels operates over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, as well as through online platforms Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. They are recognized as the best place for all things creative, offering a vast range of arts and crafts materials, framing supplies, and craft-related experiences. Michaels also owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise, reinforcing their commitment to creativity and quality.
Michaels is dedicated to fueling the joy of creativity and celebration for their customers as well as prioritizing the wellbeing of their employees. They provide robust benefits to both full-time and part-time team members, including health insurance (medical, dental, and vision), paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts. The company fosters an inclusive work environment and provides reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities. Michaels' commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion ensures that all team members and customers can create, innovate, and be better together.
The role available at the PHI-Warrington, PA Michaels store is a part-time position focused on event coordination and customer service within the retail environment. The primary responsibility of this position is to plan, coordinate, and facilitate a variety of events including children's birthday parties and other craft-related classes or events. The goal is to provide guests with a fun, engaging, and stress-free experience that encourages creativity and celebration.
In this role, the event coordinator will manage multiple events simultaneously and engage clients of all ages, from young children to seniors, by facilitating craft project completion, face painting, and other interactive activities. This requires strong communication skills to coordinate with clients and store team members and perform administrative duties such as answering emails and making phone calls. The coordinator will also be responsible for upholding company standards by ensuring cleanliness and safety before, during, and after events.
Beyond event planning, this position also entails providing excellent customer service by assisting customers in locating products and offering solutions, delivering fast and friendly checkout experiences, and educating customers about rewards programs and credit card enrollments. The candidate will also support various store operations such as merchandise stocking, truck unloading, planogram processes, and store recovery standards to maintain an inviting shopping environment. Cross-training in custom framing selling and production is part of the role, as well as participation in retailer safety and shrink programs.
Physical requirements for the job include the ability to remain standing for long periods, move throughout the store, perform bending, lifting, carrying, reaching, and working with ladders to access high shelves. The work environment includes a public retail store setting that is climate controlled with some exceptions in stock rooms, and may involve outdoor tasks related to cart retrieval or truck unloading. The hours may include nights, weekends, and early mornings.
Ultimately, this role is perfect for an energetic, enthusiastic individual who is skilled in customer service, enjoys working with children and events, has strong organizational and communication skills, and can thrive in a fast-paced retail environment while maintaining a positive attitude and respectfulness toward others.
