Job Description

The Michaels Companies, Inc., established in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, is the leading destination for crafting, creating, and celebration supplies across North America. Operating over 1,300 stores in 49 states and Canada, Michaels is renowned as the go-to location for quality arts and crafts materials, offering a vast assortment of products and services tailored to inspire creativity in individuals of all ages. With a strong focus on community, inspiration, and customer experience, Michaels fosters an environment where creativity flourishes and celebrations are made memorable. The company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise, further enhancing Michaels' comprehensive offerings in the arts and crafts domain.

This position is for a part-time Event Coordinator at a Michaels store located in Pasadena, TX, with an hourly wage of $11.00. The role is multifaceted and centers on planning, coordinating, and facilitating a variety of events designed to engage guests and provide a stress-free, fun, and enriching experience. One prominent responsibility includes organizing children’s birthday parties, ensuring each event runs smoothly and meets high standards of client satisfaction. Additionally, the role involves hosting diverse crafting classes and events, demonstrating craft project techniques, and facilitating creative activities such as face painting. The Event Coordinator works directly with guests, ranging from young children to senior adults, promoting an atmosphere of enjoyment and creativity.

Beyond event management, the position requires comprehensive customer service duties within the Michaels store. The Coordinator assists customers in locating products, provides solutions to their inquiries, and ensures a fast and friendly checkout process. A vital aspect of the role is educating customers about Michaels' Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards, including completing enrollments to enhance customer engagement. The role also covers operational tasks such as unloading shipments, restocking merchandise according to planograms, maintaining the store's overall appearance, and supporting safety and shrink prevention programs.

The Event Coordinator must effectively manage administrative tasks including answering emails, phone communications, and paperwork related to event coordination. Flexibility and adaptability are essential, as plans may need adjustments based on customer feedback and situational demands, requiring contingency planning and prompt problem-solving. Upholding cleanliness and safety standards before, during, and after events is also a critical responsibility. The role fosters a collaborative work environment where positive interactions, respect, and professionalism are encouraged at all times.

Ideal candidates bring an energetic and enthusiastic personality, strong interpersonal skills, and experience in retail or customer service settings. Experience working with children and hosting children’s events is preferred, alongside excellent communication skills in verbal, written, and nonverbal forms. The position demands physical stamina to stand for extended periods, perform lifting and stocking duties, and work in a public retail setting that may include variable environmental conditions. This role contributes significantly to Michaels' mission of fueling creativity and celebration, ensuring both team member and customer satisfaction through quality service and vibrant event experiences.
