Job Requirements

  • High school level education
  • Experience as IU Dining part-time employee for at least 10 consecutive weeks from date of hire or comparable external experience
  • Food Safety (ServSafe Food Handler) certification within 180 days of hiring
  • Knowledge of institutional food preparation equipment operation and maintenance
  • Understanding and practice of department standards for hygiene, health, safety, and uniform regulations
  • Ability to follow instructions and interpret food service documentation
  • Strong communication abilities
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including moving supplies 20 to 50 pounds and working in varying temperature and noise environments

Job Qualifications

  • General knowledge at the high school level
  • Experience as an IU Dining part-time employee for 10 consecutive weeks from date of hire or comparable experience outside of IU dining
  • Food Safety (ServSafe Food Handler) certification within 180 days from date of hire
  • Knowledge of institutional food preparation equipment operation and maintenance
  • Knowledge and practice of department standards for personal hygiene, health and safety, and uniform wear
  • Knowledge of standards described in employee handbooks and department postings
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions and interpret recipes, worksheets, and menus
  • Strong communication skills

Job Duties

  • Assist in the distribution of labor in the dining unit
  • Train part-time dining staff
  • Monitor quality of product and services
  • Responsible for opening and closing the facility as needed
  • Work under direct supervision of management team and sous chef or culinary leader
  • Assist in coordinating placement of part-time staff
  • Train entry-level part-time staff ensuring sanitation and customer service standards
  • Monitor part-time staff performance for quality and completeness
  • Promote employee development and growth
  • Assist with opening and closing operations including cash handling and facility security
  • Assist with counting weekly and monthly inventory
  • Respond to and resolve customer complaints
  • Represent management in the absence of general manager or assistant managers
  • Work alongside front-line staff during short-staffing or high-volume periods
