Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • one year of proven, responsible experience in grounds maintenance, construction, or a similar area or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • a pre-employment post-offer physical evaluation will be required
  • ability to use a company vehicle for business travel and pass an MVR
  • knowledge of operation, maintenance and repair of equipment used in performing tasks and basic mechanical and electrical principles
  • ability to follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively in writing and verbally
  • lift and/or manipulate objects weighing up to 50 pounds regularly and 50-100 pounds occasionally
  • ability to bend, stoop, crouch for extended periods and manual dexterity to safely use tools/equipment associated with repair and maintenance of grounds/buildings

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • one year of responsible experience in grounds maintenance, construction, or similar field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • knowledge of proper operation, maintenance and repair of grounds equipment
  • basic mechanical and electrical principles
  • ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • effective communication skills
  • ability to safely use maintenance tools
  • valid driver’s license
  • clean driving record
  • ability to operate small machinery and vehicles
  • physical capability to perform job tasks safely

Job Duties

  • Mow turf, roadway medians and buffer zones with hand mowers, riding mowers and tractor-mower combinations
  • prep work and install sod and sow seed as needed
  • monitor turf conditions and repair eroded areas to prevent hazards and maintain appearance
  • monitor landscape areas for weed growth and remove weeds manually or using chemical herbicides
  • assist Grounds Horticulturist in tree, shrub and plant care
  • learn to operate College trucks and trailers
  • assist Irrigation Specialist with irrigation projects and operation
  • mulch landscaped areas and transplant trees
  • water trees, shrubs, and plantings especially during drought or when newly installed
  • keep irrigation ditches free from weeds and debris
  • operate and maintain small grounds and landscape equipment safely
  • perform landscape demolition, renovation, hauling, lifting, grading, leveling, digging, plowing, sweeping, and installation tasks
  • assist Trades Specialist with upkeep and repair of outdoor structures including benches, fences, gazebos, and bridges
  • work with Event Coordinator to set up and tear down tables, chairs, stages, and miscellaneous furniture for special events
  • lift and manipulate objects weighing up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally
  • bend, stoop, crouch for extended periods
  • safely use tools and equipment associated with grounds and building maintenance
