Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum one-year related work experience preferred
  • Institutional experience in food preparation and cooking for large groups
  • Ability to calculate recipes
  • Current or ability to obtain Food Handlers Managers Card or SERVSafe certification within 30 days
  • Ability to lift and carry at least 30 pounds, up to 50 pounds with assistance
  • Ability to stand for extended time
  • Must meet health and hygiene standards set by regulatory agencies

Job Qualifications

  • Institutional experience in food preparation, cooking, and cleaning for at least 50 people
  • Ability to calculate recipes
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum one-year related work experience preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
  • Current Food Handlers Managers Card or SERVSafe certification or ability to attain within 30 days
  • Ability to lift and carry at least 30 pounds and up to 50 pounds with assistance
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Must meet personal health and hygiene standards set by KCMO Health Department and regulatory agencies

Job Duties

  • Prepare meals using menus and instructions set by Kitchen Manager
  • Cook meals according to menu plans, maintain appropriate ingredients, and accommodate special dietary needs
  • Understand and follow correct food service procedures and safe food handling guidelines
  • Utilize first-in, first-out procedures for food rotation
  • Use manual and mechanical kitchen equipment safely
  • Complete records related to food and shelter supplies
  • Communicate supply needs to Kitchen Manager
  • Serve meals and clean food line
  • Wash dishes, pots, and pans following guidelines
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen, appliances, and food storage areas
  • Perform daily cleaning according to health department, USDA, FDA, and pest control guidelines
  • Assist with special dining room events
  • Communicate clearly with clients, co-workers, and volunteers
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service and respect in all interactions
  • Maintain positive relationships with vendors and donors
  • Assist Director of Volunteer Services with food-related volunteer events
  • Perform job functions in accordance with agency policies and competencies
