Job Description
Located in the historic Torrington Armory, this position plays a vital role in maintaining the interior and exterior of the facility to ensure a clean, safe, and inviting environment. The Torrington Armory accommodates a variety of community events and functions, making its upkeep essential for daily operations and special occasions alike. The hire for this role will contribute to the overall presentation and functionality by performing a broad range of custodial and groundskeeping tasks that uphold the facility's high standards.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma
- 0-6 months of progressive work experience typically in building and grounds maintenance or 1-2 years of progressive work experience in building and grounds
- Valid driver’s license
- Must obtain and maintain federal security clearance
- Ability to lift 50 lbs occasionally
- Ability to operate cleaning and grounds maintenance equipment
- Willingness to work Monday through Thursday 7:00 am - 3:00 pm
- Willingness to respond to after-hours call backs
- Exposure to hazardous materials and chemicals
- Ability to comply with OSHA and EPA regulations
- Ability to maintain Material Safety Data Sheets
- Must be able to perform physical labor in variable weather conditions.
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma
- 0-6 months of progressive work experience typically in building and grounds maintenance or equivalent
- Ability to operate cleaning and grounds maintenance equipment
- Knowledge of materials, supplies, equipment, and methods for technical cleaning and maintenance
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to obtain and maintain federal security clearance
- Ability to work as essential personnel including after-hours work as required
- Good communication and documentation skills
- Ability to lift 50 lbs occasionally.
Job Duties
- Perform general cleaning including vacuuming floors and furniture
- Empty trash and recycling containers
- Dust surfaces and wash windows and mirrors
- Clean and stock restrooms, bathrooms, classrooms, kitchen, hallways, gym, and offices
- Perform ground maintenance duties such as mowing and weeding grass, maintaining trees, shrubs, and flowers, and snow removal
- Operate and maintain custodial and grounds equipment including vacuums, carpet shampooer, floor scrubber, lawnmower, and weed eater
- Inspect and document emergency lighting and fire extinguishers for proper operation
- Maintain custodial supplies and request replenishments as needed
- Identify facility maintenance needs and submit work orders
- Maintain Material Safety Data Sheets for chemicals
- Comply with OSHA and EPA regulations.
