Job Requirements

- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and company policies
- Effective verbal communication skills with customers and associates
- Basic mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages
- Ability to follow written, oral, or diagram instructions
- Ability to handle multiple concrete variables in standardized situations
- Ability to use computer keyboard and mouse
- Physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds with assistance
- Capability to work a flexible schedule including weekends
Job Duties
- Operates cash register by scanning all merchandise, engaging the customer through suggestive selling, proper tendering of each transaction, and thanking the customer for shopping at Great Lakes Ace Hardware
- Processes refunds and/or issues in store merchandise credit to customers for returned merchandise
- Uses loss prevention techniques to reduce shortages and prevent shoplifting
- Follows company policies and procedures for all transactions and promotes Ace Rewards membership
- Greets customers and assists in answering product questions using the sales process
- Assists customers in locating merchandise in store and online, processes special orders
- Displays, stocks, and maintains merchandise on shelves and end caps, builds displays to attract customers
- Assists with color matching and mixing paint
- Supports service areas including chain, rope, key, and glass cutting, screen repair, and knife sharpening
- Performs nightly maintenance and cleanliness tasks
- Refers customer complaints to proper personnel for resolution
- Maintains communication with management, store associates, and support center
- Uses computer systems for daily operations
