Job Requirements

  • Two years of increasingly responsible theatre house management, host/hostess, or restaurant work experience
  • Per California state law, smoking is not permitted inside city facilities/vehicles or within 20 feet of main entrances, exits, and operable windows
  • The performing arts center is a smoke-free environment
  • Be available for night and weekend event work as required
  • Will need to pass Responsible Beverage Service Course

Job Qualifications

  • Two years of increasingly responsible theatre house management, host/hostess, or restaurant work experience
  • Knowledge of basic operations, policies, procedures, and functions of a performing arts center
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics
  • Knowledge of reception and telephone techniques
  • Knowledge of customer service techniques
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures
  • Knowledge of risk management policies and procedures
  • Skill to perform data entry quickly and accurately
  • Skill to operate concessions counter sales terminals (taught after hiring)
  • Ability to maintain courteous and tactful, but firm relationships with the public
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
  • Ability to perform a variety of office assignments without close supervision
  • Ability to perform manual labor such as lifting and moving furniture and equipment
  • Ability to think clearly and act quickly in emergency situations
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions
  • Ability to prepare clear, concise, and accurate records and reports
  • Ability to maintain accurate documentation
  • Ability to provide supervision and training to arts center volunteers

Job Duties

  • Opens and prepares lobby and concession areas of arts center before performances
  • Provides security during performances
  • Locks and secures arts center after performances
  • Performs and/or oversees general clean-up, vacuuming, and moving of furniture before and after performances
  • Manages concession supply and equipment inventories, ordering and stocking
  • Coordinates performance information with box office, backstage, and/or rental representatives
  • Supervises volunteer concession staff and ushers
