Job Requirements
- must pass pre-employment background check
- must have a valid driver license and meet City of Salem driving standards
- high school graduate or GED preferred
- some general maintenance, repair, groundskeeping, construction trade, or related manual labor experience
- willingness to work in varying weather conditions including extreme temperatures
- ability to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally
- must be available Monday through Friday with occasional weekend overtime
- positions requiring CDL must pass drug test including marijuana and receive pay differential
Job Qualifications
- high school graduate or GED preferred
- some general maintenance, repair, groundskeeping, construction trade, or manual labor experience
- valid driver’s license meeting city requirements
- knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
- experience in customer service principles
- knowledge of safe work practices
- basic mathematical skills
- ability to read and interpret technical documents
- strong communication skills
- experience with modern office equipment and software
- ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Job Duties
- perform landscape maintenance and installations
- maintain facilities including restroom cleaning and repairs
- mow lawns and operate landscaping equipment such as push mowers, blowers, weed eaters, and edgers
- participate in painting, carpentry, plumbing, welding, and cement finishing tasks
- care for natural turf fields by watering, fertilizing, maintaining soil composition and irrigation systems
- operate city-owned vehicles and tow trailers
- interact and communicate effectively with the public regarding park maintenance activities
- assist in maintenance and preparations for city events at amphitheaters and shelters
