Job Requirements
- basic experience, knowledge and training in parks and recreation typically resulting from a combination of education or years of experience in parks and recreation or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
- bachelor's degree in parks administration, physical education or related degree preferred
- two years’ experience in parks administration, recreational programming or special events required
- valid Arkansas driver's license required
- current American Red Cross certification or must be able to obtain certification within six months of employment
- certified parks and recreation professional CPRP certification preferred
- basic proficiency in Microsoft 365
Job Qualifications
- bachelor's degree in parks administration, physical education or related degree preferred
- two years’ experience in parks administration, recreational programming or special events required
- valid Arkansas driver's license required
- current American Red Cross certification or ability to obtain within six months of employment
- certified parks and recreation professional CPRP certification preferred
- basic proficiency in Microsoft 365
- knowledge of parks and recreation management principles, facility use and maintenance requirements
- knowledge of regulatory requirements, city ordinances, applicable state and local laws regarding departmental services
- skill in oral and written communication
- skill in organization and scheduling of work activities
- skill in operation of personal computer and MS Word
- skill in operation of city vehicle to perform essential functions
- ability to communicate positively and friendly manner to employees, supervisor, coworkers and clients
- ability to provide effective leadership and supervision to personnel and operations
- ability to develop policies and procedures to ensure safe and efficient operations of facility
- ability to develop and maintain departmental records as mandated or necessary
- ability to explain new or amended city ordinances and policies regarding departmental operations
- ability to monitor collection of fees and issuance of receipts
Job Duties
- assist in planning and organizing a wide variety of special events and community service programs at city parks
- assist with inventory of equipment
- abide by and enforce policies and procedures of the parks department
- responsible for the day-to-day operations including janitorial, maintenance and usage during special events
- responsible for rental, city usage and community events of facilities
- assist with rental and registration of special events and ensure accurate record keeping for event receipts
- assist coordinating volunteers when needed
- assist in contacting neighborhood groups, schools, businesses, law enforcement agencies, volunteers and other community groups and provide necessary coordination of services
- oversee fundraising campaigns and solicit sponsors and sponsorship packages
- oversee rental and registration activities and ensure accurate record keeping for event and program receipts
- assist with workout equipment cleaning and maintenance
- work with groundskeeping and facility staff to ensure successful operation of events
- serve as event contact during event as assigned
- use advertising and marketing practices to promote programs and special events and activities to citizens and potential users
- assist with inventory of program and event supplies and report needs to special events manager
- operate a city vehicle
- perform other duties as necessary or assigned
