Job Description

The City of Ankeny is seeking a highly motivated and energetic intern to join its Parks and Recreation Department for a summer internship. Ankeny is a vibrant and rapidly growing city located just 15 miles north of Des Moines, with a population exceeding 70,000 residents. Job Requirements

  • Completion of high school or equivalent
  • enrollment in parks and recreation, sports management or related degree program
  • ability to complete 40 hours per week during the internship period
  • availability to work flexible schedule including days, nights and weekends
  • consent to pre-employment drug screen and background check
  • physical ability to work in indoor and outdoor settings
  • willingness to adapt to all weather conditions

Job Qualifications

  • Current student in parks and recreation, sports management or related field

Job Duties

  • Assist and or lead the development of recreation, cultural and special event programming
  • assist with front desk operations and customer service center
  • work with staff on special projects including fundraising, project management, tournament and event management, program evaluations, and goal setting
  • develop 3-5 new programs that are turn-key and ready for implementation
  • supervise and train seasonal staff
  • develop press releases, flyers and other promotional material for distribution
  • work in a variety of department functions including programming, customer service, aquatics, special events, sports complex, and golf course
