Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in recreation, park management, public administration or related field
- minimum of three years experience in recreation program development and supervision
- strong organizational and leadership skills
- ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
- excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
- valid driver’s license and ability to operate city vehicles
- knowledge of safety standards and regulatory requirements
- ability to work independently and as part of a team
- flexibility to work within standard office hours Monday through Friday 8AM to 5PM
Job Qualifications
- Experience in community recreation program planning and implementation
- proven supervisory experience in a recreation or related environment
- knowledge of senior citizen programming and issues
- skills in event coordination and vendor management
- basic accounting and budgeting experience
- ability to prepare and present clear reports
- familiarity with grant tracking and compliance
- strong project management and problem-solving skills
- excellent public relations and customer service abilities
Job Duties
- Directs, leads and schedules assigned departmental personnel
- conducts in-service training and orientation for staff
- supervises assigned facility and staff and ensures the safety and cleanliness of equipment and facility
- supervises the preparation, scheduling and supervision of various projects, programs, activities and trips to ensure the safety, general welfare and enjoyment of the general public
- assists in the development, planning, organization, implementation and supervision of various activities, trips and special events
- contacts vendors, entertainers, instructors and venues to secure contracts as needed
- coordinates logistics, planning, sponsorship and promotion of activities and events requiring follow-up skills, high attention to detail ensuring accuracy of information and good project management skills
- surveys and evaluates existing facilities and/or camps, programs, activities, special events, classes and trips for quality, successful interest and program growth
- maintains and procures inventory and supplies for the facility and/or program, activities, special events, camps and trips
- performs routine administrative and accounting duties, e.g. reviews program statistical data, generates and submits reports and documentation, maintains accounts, verifies receipts and budgetary expenditures
- responsible to track CDBG grant money, number of participants and provide report
- ensures all guidelines of the grant are being met
- oversees daily operation of the Senior Center
- schedules classes, permits space, rentals for parties, staffing and maintenance
- responsible for scheduling and registering participants for the classes, camps, and programs as well as maintain records
- surveys participants quarterly on quality of programs
- collaborates with Communication & Marketing to achieve completion of Senior Newsletter, Family Fun Guide, advertisements, special events and flyers
- supervises various camp locations including contractual camps
- reviews and evaluates staff
- responds and assists in needs of other Parks and Recreation divisions and Citywide departments upon supervisor's approval
- assists with determining certain policies and procedures for the Recreation division
- cross trained in various aspects of the Parks & Recreation Department
- acts as City liaison to the Senior Advisory Committee
- handles specific duties depending on overall focus within Parks and Recreation Department
