Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • One year mechanical or building repair or maintenance experience or equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Possession of a State of Florida Driver's License
  • Valid driver's license with proof of automobile insurance
  • Acceptable background check
  • Acceptable driving record
  • Ability to perform heavy manual tasks and lift at least 50 pounds
  • Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays including assigned shifts Tuesday to Thursday 3 PM to 11 PM, and Saturday 9 AM to 5 PM
  • Physical ability to perform outdoor work in various weather conditions
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to maintain professional relationships
  • Positive customer service orientation
  • Ability to handle safety hazards and equipment use responsibly

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • One year mechanical or building repair or maintenance experience or equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Possession of a State of Florida Driver's License
  • Ability to operate small machinery and power tools
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor and lift at least 50 pounds safely
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Preferred three years mechanical or building repair or maintenance experience
  • Additional education and experience may substitute for requirements

Job Duties

  • Operate small machinery such as pressure washer, gas blower, pole cutter and street sweeper within garage decks and surface lots
  • Assist meter technicians with installation and removal of parking meters
  • Assist with light mechanical repairs and maintenance of garage gate revenue equipment
  • Repair and/or replace damaged gate arms
  • Perform minor diagnostic repair and/or replace parking related revenue equipment
  • Assist with traffic control within parking garages and entrances, exits and driveways
  • Perform minor repairs to equipment and buildings
  • Conduct light painting and painting touch-up and assist in covering/removal of graffiti on garage decks and common areas of the garages
  • Lift, position and remove barricades to open or close parking areas
  • Wash and polish windows
  • maintain common office areas and restrooms
  • maintain supply levels
  • Receive office and meter related supplies from delivery services
  • assist with recycling of metals and waste paper
  • Set up furniture, equipment, barricades, cones and signs at garages for meetings, special events, movie shoots and special functions
  • Conduct daily visual inspection of elevators for vandalism or damage
  • Monitor condition of garage lighting and report outages
  • Lubricate stairwell and office door hinges and panic bars, report repair needs
  • Visually inspect garage decks for safety hazards
  • Adjust heat and ventilating controls
  • Maintain and clean city appliances in common areas
  • Use pay stations and master meters and provide customer service
  • Perform general custodial duties including litter pickup, sweeping or blowing of walkways and emptying waste cans
  • Represent the City positively and maintain professional relationships
  • Perform related duties as required
