Job Requirements

  • Possess a valid driver's license
  • successfully complete Level 2 State and National criminal history check
  • adhere to grooming standards including uniform, hair, body art and piercing policies
  • have the ability to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends and holidays
  • be capable of working independently with minimal supervision
  • possess communication skills to interact professionally, tactfully and courteously with the public
  • ability to perform skilled trade functions
  • comply with all applicable rules, directives, policies, laws and regulations
  • capable of performing inspections, investigating problems and taking corrective actions
  • must be physically capable of working in outdoor environments and operating motorized vehicles
  • commitment to safety and protection of natural and cultural resources

Job Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license
  • experience with visitor services and public relations
  • knowledge of natural and cultural resource preservation and restoration techniques
  • skills in conducting interpretive programs, public outreach and event management
  • grant writing experience preferred
  • ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other computer applications
  • strong verbal and written communication skills
  • ability to operate hand and power tools and assorted equipment
  • ability to meet physical demands including working outdoors in inclement weather
  • previous experience in park services or related fields preferred
  • ability to successfully complete ranger academy

Job Duties

  • Explain to the public the facilities and services provided for public use, enjoyment and education
  • meet visitors, answer questions, provide information and directions
  • resolve visitor complaints while maintaining good public relations
  • provide cultural history interpretive programs such as multi-media presentations and demonstrations/talks
  • assist with event planning, management, and evaluation including on-site programs, off-site programs and special events, guided walks, museum and fort tours
  • use best management practices to preserve, interpret, collect, catalogue, inventory and maintain culturally significant buildings, artifacts, displays and interpretive signage
  • seek grants for historic improvements and interpretive materials and follow DEP guidelines for grant submission
  • secure in-kind donations such as volunteer hours and program and marketing support
  • coordinate cyclical maintenance on cultural and historic buildings, bridges, landscapes
  • construct, maintain and repair buildings, fences, trails, service roads, fire lanes, boardwalks, campsites, picnic areas, boat ramps, and all other necessary facilities
  • maintain cleanliness of grounds, facilities, and vehicles
  • prepare forms and reports on fees, receipts, visitor use, visitor contact, patrols, wildlife sightings and population counts, accidents, crisis and miscellaneous incidents, vehicle, boat and equipment operations, property records, purchase orders and requisitions
  • operate communication equipment and maintain logs
  • ensure park rules are enforced pertaining to all natural, historical and archaeological facilities and resources
  • perform other related duties as required
