Job Requirements
- High school diploma
- Associates degree preferred
- One-year experience as Paramedic or relevant clinical experience preferred
- Current North Carolina Paramedic certification or ability to obtain
- BLS certification
- ACLS certification
- PALS certification
- Ability to communicate clearly
- Ability to use computer systems
- Ability to withstand prolonged standing and walking
- Pre-employment physical capacity testing required
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Certification as a North Carolina Paramedic or ability to obtain certification
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification required upon hire
- Preferred associate degree
- Preferred one-year experience as a Paramedic or relevant clinical experience
- Knowledge of the Paramedic scope of practice
- Knowledge of professional theory, practice, and procedure
- Ability to assess needs of acute and chronically ill patients and their families
- Ability to work collaboratively and establish effective working relationships
- Ability to communicate clearly with healthcare team and patients
- Competency in using sensory and cognitive functions to process and prioritize information
- Proficiency in recording activities and documenting patient care
- Ability to use computers and new software programs
- Ability to withstand prolonged standing and walking
- Working knowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions
- Commitment to professional development by maintaining competencies and seeking educational opportunities
Job Duties
- Provide direct patient care in accordance with the Paramedic scope of practice as defined by the North Carolina Medical Board under medical oversight
- Assist clinical staff in the evaluation, treatment, and care of patients
- Obtain pertinent history and perform physical examinations
- Perform technical procedures as delegated
- Monitor patients and maintain records using patient monitoring systems and electronic health records
- Document patients' status, delivery of care, and evaluate patients' responses to care according to procedures and protocols
- Communicate essential information professionally to healthcare team members
- Operate medical and mechanical equipment and ensure supplies are stocked
- Provide and maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, visitors, and staff
- Act as preceptor and support development of staff and learners
- Participate in clinical or operational performance improvement activities
- Maintain certifications and clinical skills
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described
