Job Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED
  • Certified as a paramedic in the State of Texas
  • CPR certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Pre-Hospital Life Support (PHTLS) or International Trauma Life Support (ITLS)
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to read, write and interpret instructions in English
  • Possess a valid Texas driver's license and be insurable
  • Ability to lift, carry and push up to 125 pounds (250 pounds with assistance)
  • Ability to climb stairs and perform repetitive physical movements
  • Good vision (correctable) to read street signs and small print

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate or GED
  • Certified paramedic in the State of Texas
  • Current CPR certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Pre-Hospital Life Support (PHTLS) or International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) certification
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to use clinical skills such as IV insertion and intubation
  • Experience working in high-stress emergency medical settings
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and customer service under pressure

Job Duties

  • Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls 24 hours per day, drive emergency vehicles in all road conditions including adverse weather and traffic
  • Reads map books and follows directions to respond efficiently and safely
  • Follows all departmental, local and state driving laws, policies and procedures
  • Uses communication equipment to coordinate with dispatchers, EMS crews and other agencies
  • Maintains vehicles and equipment in readiness and cleanliness
  • Completes daily vehicle and supply checklists, assists with re-supply and equipment decontamination
  • Reports any discrepancies with vehicles, supplies or equipment in writing
  • Provides direct patient care per Medical Director's protocols
  • Demonstrates clinical competency in all patient care situations
  • Performs physically demanding tasks including lifting and transporting patients
  • Interacts with external agencies including police, fire departments and first responders
  • Provides professional customer service and maintains a positive image
  • Completes patient care reports and associated documentation accurately and timely
  • Works under physically and psychologically demanding conditions
  • Adheres to company policies and completes assigned duties
  • Must pass departmental skills evaluation and complete NEOP process before independent staffing
