Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • certification as a paramedic in Texas
  • CPR certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
  • Pre-Hospital Life Support (PHTLS) or International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) certification
  • valid Texas driver’s license
  • insurable driver status

  • ability to read, write and interpret English instructions
  • ability to work under physically and psychologically taxing conditions
  • ability to lift, carry and balance up to 125 pounds

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate or GED
  • certified as a paramedic in the State of Texas
  • CPR certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Pre-Hospital Life Support (PHTLS) or International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) for 911 areas
  • effective communication skills
  • ability to read, write and interpret instructions in English
  • valid Texas driver’s license and insurable

Job Duties

  • Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls 24 hours per day
  • drive a variety of emergency vehicles in all road conditions including inclement weather, dense traffic, and rural off-road settings
  • reads map books and follows written and verbal directions to respond efficiently and safely
  • follows all departmental, local and state driving laws, policies and procedures
  • uses a variety of communication equipment and communicates verbally with dispatchers, EMS crews, first responders and other organizations
  • maintains vehicles and equipment in a constant state of readiness and cleanliness
  • completes daily vehicle and supply checklists and assists with vehicle re-supply, vehicle and equipment decontamination and general readiness-related tasks
  • immediately reports any discrepancies with vehicles, supplies or equipment
  • provides direct patient care per Medical Director's authorization and protocols
  • demonstrates clinical competency in all patient care instances
  • demonstrates physical competencies sufficient to lift, carry, transport and extricate patients
  • interacts with multiple outside agencies such as police departments, fire departments and first responder organizations
  • provides satisfactory customer service and projects professionalism
  • completes patient care reports, billing information and other documentation timely
  • works under physically and psychologically taxing conditions including inclement weather, temperature extremes, hazardous environments and high-stress situations
  • performs other duties including housekeeping chores and special projects
  • must pass departmental skills evaluation and complete NEOP process before staffing a truck
  • adheres to company policies and procedures
  • other duties as assigned
