Job Requirements

  • current valid State of Illinois Paramedic or EMT-P certification or pending Illinois Department of Public Health license
  • current valid U.S. driver’s license
  • ability to complete Fire Academy requirements
  • attach all required documentation at time of application
  • willingness to undergo background investigation
  • willingness to undergo drug screening
  • willingness to pass medical examination
  • willingness to pass physical performance test
  • availability to work varied shifts Sunday through Saturday

Job Qualifications

  • current valid State of Illinois Paramedic or EMT-P certification or pending Illinois Department of Public Health license
  • current valid U.S. driver’s license
  • ability to complete Fire Academy requirements
  • knowledge of paramedic protocols and medical equipment use
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills

Job Duties

  • respond to emergency medical calls
  • provide pre-hospital emergency medical care
  • assess nature and extent of illness or injury
  • administer injections and medications
  • monitor cardiac patients
  • prepare patients for transport
  • lift and carry patients
  • prepare patient care reports
  • inspect medical and emergency equipment
  • perform routine maintenance checks of ambulances
  • restock medical supplies
  • operate ambulance safely
  • participate in public education safety programs
  • attend training classes and drills
  • perform general maintenance and cleaning of equipment and facilities
  • employ universal precautions for disease prevention
