Job Requirements

  • Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of hire
  • Must be at least twenty-one years of age at the time of hire
  • Previous athletic or recreation facility experience preferred
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred
  • Must be able to obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certification within employer's specified timeframe
  • Must be able to obtain Nebraska Pool Operator and/or American Red Cross Lifeguard certification if required
  • Must maintain all certifications as required
  • Must have evening and/or weekend availability

  • Ability to learn and enforce city and departmental policies regarding memberships, programs, operations, and emergencies
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations related to recreation facilities

  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with the public, staff, and officials
  • Ability to prepare and maintain documents, reports, and correspondence accurately

Job Duties

  • Supervises subordinate employees through various activities including scheduling work, assigning work duties, monitoring job performance, and recommending disciplinary actions
  • Assists the Recreation Coordinator in preparing facilities for daily opening and closing, maintenance procedures, cleaning and inspecting equipment, and testing water samples if applicable
  • Enforces compliance with departmental policies regarding hygiene, health, safety, and sanitation
  • Monitors appropriate use of facilities and staff conduct by conducting regular walk-throughs
  • Documents and reports accidents, injuries, and incidents accurately
  • Maintains cleanliness and orderliness in all supervised areas
  • Notifies maintenance and custodial staff to resolve facility issues
  • Assists in inventory management and supply requests
  • Closes any unsafe or non-functional facility areas
  • Resolves patron, member, and participant complaints and refers unresolved issues to Recreation Coordinator
  • Supports planning, organizing, and implementing facility programs and events
  • Assists with financial documentation and clerical duties
  • Participates in recruitment, training, and retention of staff
  • Operates equipment and city vehicles safely according to guidelines
  • Fills in for other employees as needed
  • Performs lifeguard duties if assigned to aquatics
  • Participates in citywide special events as needed
