Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Minimum of three to six months of industrial experience
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to write simple correspondence
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms and talk or hear
  • The associate is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • The associate must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • Ability to work overtime when needed
  • Ability to work on rotating shifts

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Technical school or manufacturing certification
  • Minimum of three to six months of industrial experience
  • Six or more months of automated packaging experience
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to write simple correspondence
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs

Job Duties

  • Know and observe plant safety work procedures and rules, environmental practices and GMP guidelines
  • Maintain packaging line at acceptable levels of safety and housekeeping
  • Shutdown packaging lines if there is an unacceptable safety risk
  • Report all safety issues and recommendations to supervision
  • Understand and follow proper procedures for all lockout-tag out-try procedures for systems including packaging machine, conveyor system, sugar feed system, and all auxiliary equipment
  • Visually inspect bags being produced on machine for proper fold, sealing, weights, bag shape and overall product appearance
  • Shutdown packaging lines if there is an unacceptable quality risk
  • Maintain housekeeping at packaging line to allow line operators to concentrate efforts on running machine
  • Run filling machine while line operators are on breaks or attending meetings, including starting and stopping machine, replenishing packaging supplies, clearing product jams
  • Replenish packaging supplies as necessary for continuous operation
  • Recognize and correct inefficiencies in the machine
  • Participate in the team effort to improve performance
  • Fill hoppers, change bags, fill glue containers, replace ink bottles or ribbons and keep all necessary feeders loaded
  • Ability to work overtime when needed
  • Must understand and be physically capable of following all documented cleaning procedures for the machine where assigned
  • Ability to work on rotating shifts
  • Perform any job as determined by line operator or supervisor
